Fairfax Homes Deserve Design That Takes Them Seriously

Fairfax sits at an interesting crossroads: it's a community of historic colonials near Old Town, mid-century ramblers tucked into established neighborhoods, and brand-new custom builds rising on infill lots and in newer developments near the Government Center and Fairfax Corner. That mix means there's no single "Fairfax look" — and that's exactly the kind of environment where DuVäl Design does its best work.

We don't lock our clients into one aesthetic. Whether you're restoring the character of a decades-old brick colonial off Main Street, modernizing a split-level in a neighborhood like Kings Park or Mantua, or designing the interior of a ground-up new build from scratch, our approach starts with how you actually want to live in the space — not with a predetermined style we're trying to sell you.

Design Work We Do in Fairfax

New Construction: Fairfax County continues to see custom homes built on teardown lots and newly subdivided parcels. For new-build clients, we get involved early — often during the architectural stage — to plan lighting layouts, millwork, kitchen and bath layouts, and finish selections before walls are closed up. Getting design input in at this stage saves clients from costly change orders later and ensures the finished home feels intentional from room to room, not assembled piecemeal.

Complex Renovations: A large share of our Fairfax clients come to us with homes built between the 1950s and 1990s — solid structures with layouts that no longer serve modern life. Galley kitchens that need to open up. Formal living rooms nobody uses. Primary suites that were an afterthought when the house was built. We handle the full scope of these renovations: structural coordination with contractors and architects, space planning, custom cabinetry and millwork, material and fixture selection, and the countless small decisions that separate a renovation that looks finished from one that looks "done."

If you're planning a new build or a renovation in Fairfax, VA — whether you're still at the architectural drawing stage or already mid-construction — we'd like to hear about it!
